‘A place of growth, a path to excellence.’
Wider Curriculum
At Fairhaven Primary School, we have carefully developed and mapped out our wider curriculum subject areas to ensure that learning is well sequenced and builds progressively over time. Wider subject curriculums are organised into a two-year cycle, allowing pupils to revisit and deepen their understanding of key concepts while ensuring full coverage of the national curriculum. Each area of learning is supported by detailed Overviews and Knowledge Organisers, which clearly set out the key knowledge, vocabulary, and skills to be taught. These tools support both teachers in delivering high-quality lessons and pupils in retaining and recalling important information as they progress through the curriculum.
To further enhance learning, we use child-friendly Knowledge Organisers that help pupils take ownership of their learning and understand the key ideas in an accessible way. Our wider curriculum subjects have been thoughtfully refined to not only meet the expectations of the national curriculum but also to have clear purpose and relevance to our pupils. Where suitable learning is linked to our local area, helping children make meaningful connections between what they learn in school and the world around them. This approach ensures that our wider subject curriculums are both ambitious and engaging, enabling pupils to develop a deep sense of curiosity, pride, and understanding of their community.
