As you may be aware from the media, the teaching of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) becomes compulsory from September 2020. Although there has been much hype in the media, these proposals are nothing new. In Spring term 2017 we re-wrote our PSHE curriculum and, before launching it in September 2017, held a consultation with parents. As a result, the changes we now need to make to our curriculum to make it compliant with the statutory requirements for September 2020 are minimal.
The only significant change for us as a school and for you as parents is that, from September 2020, there is no right to withdraw. Previously parents have been able to withdraw their children from certain teaching about Relationships and Sex Education. This will no longer be possible from September 2020.
An overview of our planned PSHE Curriculum, which covers all of our statutory obligations from September 2020 has been published below.
We would welcome your comments and responses to our proposed curriculum. These can be registered in the form of e-mail using the following e-mail address: firstname.lastname@example.org
The consultation will run for 10 working days from today (7th October 2019), closing at 5pm on 21st October 2019.
